Heregríma Blackwork Pattern

$5.50

The Old English word heregríma translates to “war-mask”, one of many terms for a face-covering helmet used in Beowulf, the epic poem that is among the earliest pieces of English literature. Loosely inspired by reconstructions of the Sutton Hoo helmet, this design uses a variety of blackwork motifs outlined in couched metallic thread to evoke the intricate Anglo-Saxon metalwork. Pattern includes the full chart, as well as 12 full-page enlargements.

Chart size: 140 stitches wide x 160 stitches tall
Stitched area: 136 x 152 stitches
Colours used: 8 (7 regular floss; 1 metallic)
Shown on: 28-count evenweave worked over 2. That is, each full stitch covers 2 threads of the fabric, so that it is the same size as it would be on 14-count.
Stitched size on 28-count: 24.8 cm x 27.6 cm (9 3/4" x 10 7/8")
Stitches used: Back stitch, couching stitch
